Sign up to sell and buy local Posted on December 8, 2021

As we head into the festive season, we’re reminded to consider shopping locally. The more we can support local business, the more jobs and wages growth will result. In an effort to encourage local spending, government and business groups have created local business registers for shoppers. Here’s where you can list your business, and/or search for local shopping options…

The NSW Government has launched a Buy Regional webpage for small businesses to promote their wares and encourage local consumers. There are approximately 37 different retail and wholesale categories ranging from food and wine, holiday accommodation, experiences, PPE, workshops and classes and outdoor materials.

The Central Coast has something similar thanks to a joint venture between four key Chambers of Commerce (Gosford Erina Coastal, Wyong, the Peninsula and the Entrance), Business NSW and the Central Coast Council. The Bigger Backyard Central Coast register lists local businesses and consumers are shopping locally to help support businesses in our area.

In just the last few weeks since restrictions were eased, the Xero Small Business Index rose to 94 – not far below the index average of 100. This suggests that consumers are spending and sales are good. NSW reported sales growth of 4.8 per cent which is slightly higher than the national average for the same period. Let’s hope the trend continues. Happy shopping.
