Should you book a flight? Posted on March 16, 2021
The government has announced a $1.2 billion injection into the tourism industry that will involve slashing consumer flight prices to certain locations around Australia. Take a holiday, spend your money – says the Federal Government. So…should you?
It is very tempting. Between April and July, a 50 per cent discount on tickets will be offered for flights to and from 13 regions.
The discounts will be factored directly into the price flights from suppliers such as Qantas and Virgin to destinations: Gold Coast, Cairns, the Whitsundays region, the Sunshine Coast, the Lasseter region which includes Uluru, Alice Springs, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Broome, Avalon, Merimbula and Kangaroo Island. Travel should take place before September 2021.
It will be interesting to observe the uptake. Consumers need to feel confident that COVID-19 is properly contained, and that Premiers won’t shut the borders on a whim and jeopardize the holiday, or worse, the ability to return home.
Overall, we are supportive of the scheme. For those dreaming of a holiday, we recommend that you read the fine print to ensure you’re protected against a COVID inspired turn of events.
