Why everyone is in a tizz about jobs Posted on February 19, 2022

Jobs

The ‘Great Resignation’, or the ‘Great Talent Migration’ is predicted to hit Australian businesses in March of this year. Indeed, a recent study by PWC of 1800 Australian businesses revealed that 38% of employees planned to leave their employer in the next year. So how can you keep your great talent inhouse?

Businesses big and small need to determine their Employee Value Proposition (EVP), that is, find out the reasons good employees want to work for you, then invest in and promote those areas internally and externally. Beware though, it is no good for a business owner to whip up an EVP on behalf of their employees. Employees are very much the informers, if not the designers of an EVP, or you will likely assume the wrong reasons that people like working for you.

Career development is one of seven layers of attachment employees have to their workplaces and often forms part of an EVP. It is also one area where governments are often willing to help as it drives votes and economic recovery. The NSW Government has several initiatives to support jobs currently. These include: free RSA training for hospitality staff to support those businesses to keep doors open during the Omicron wave; sponsoring a range of TAFE Information sessions for people interested in a vocational career, as well as fee-free courses to support skilled workers; sponsored fee-free courses to encourage women in trades, as well as grants for businesses who employ them.

To talk about your talent attraction and retention strategies, and the levels of investment you can make now and later to sustain your businesses growth, call to speak with an experienced AdviceCo business coach: 4320 0500.
