Luca grew up on a farm and learnt from his father that “to be in control of your own future you had to be self employed”. From this, he began searching for what he could do that would give him joy since he wanted to love what he did. 

He started in pharmacy in 1986 after a hail storm destroyed his fathers’ flower and peach farm, and so it was his first job that was not on the farm. In February 2003, Mega Save Chemist was started at Erina, which was the flagship store from which a franchise model was developed.

Luca’s focus at the moment is to build on his new staff and to grow his passion of delivering “remarkable service” in all areas of pharmacy. 

The flagship store, Mega Save Chemist Erina, has recently been refitted with an independent living section that has been showing great promise after only a short time.

Over the next 12 months, Luca believes his team will consolidate its position as the best pharmacy on the Central Coast. They will continue to deliver that “remarkable service” and become the local point of primary health care in the community.

Due to government reform and cost cutting in the health budget, pharmacy is under a lot of pressure. Pressure from landlords and competition have also had a significant impact on GP.

The teams’ response to these challenges have been varied – “We have people who have shone and we have people who have moved on to other jobs. Both results I see as a win. If you want to shine, we can give you a platform to do so and if you don’t, it is best that these staff move out to allow new motivated team members in.”

Over the last 12 months Luca says the team’s major successes have been made at their Charlestown store that has won the Hunter Regions Small Business Awards for the best pharmacy in the Hunter.

Mega Save Chemist is a major sponsor for Central Coast Kid’s in Need and the team love the interaction they have with the families.

Luca and the team have a long term business plan that they are working towards and with guidance from Robson Partners and strong team work, business will continue to grow.
